Some stories
should stay unwritten
An immersive, actor-led experience for 2 to 8 players that blends live performance, transforming spaces, and suspenseful cinematic storytelling. You're not watching a story. You're inside it.
A new kind of night out
Real performers who react to your group in the moment. Nothing here is a recording.
Every experience belongs to your group of 8. No crowds moving through with you, no waiting on strangers to catch up.
Each experience is a fully written story with its own world and characters, built to pull you slowly into the mystery.
The Experiences
Mother's Rite
After a tragic accident takes her children, a grieving mother turns to a dark cult with a promise no one should trust: bring them back. Something does return to that house. It answers to their names. It is not her children.
Get NotifiedViolet Night
Your car breaks down on a road with no name, and the only shelter for miles is a hotel that shouldn't still be open. Violet, the innkeeper, welcomes your group in for the night. Checking in is the easy part. Surviving until checkout is not.
Get NotifiedModel Behavior
Your group has just been hired at the city's oldest mannequin factory, and the pay is good enough not to ask questions. The showroom is spotless. The workroom is fine. It's the factory floor after hours you were told never to visit alone.
Get NotifiedThe Inkwell is Boston's first Thrill Theater: a place where a live cast builds a real mystery around your group and lets it unfold in real time, inside spaces built and transformed for exactly that story.
There's no seat to sit in and no stage separating you and the story. You're standing in the middle of the set as the tension builds, and every choice your group makes pulls you further into the mystery.
We built The Inkwell for people who want a night that stays with them long after they've left the parking lot.
Questions, Answered
What exactly is thrill theater?
It's a live, immersive story performed around your group by professional actors, inside sets built specifically for that story. You're a character in something that responds to you.
How is this different from other things I've done in Boston?
The Inkwell is its own genre: Thrill Theater. The tension comes from story, character, and the choices your group makes along the way.
What if it gets too intense for me?
If it's too much, that's what the Chicken Coop is for. Slip out, take a seat, and watch the rest of your group finish what you started without you. No judgment. Okay, maybe a little. Just know that once you step out of the story, there's no stepping back in.
Is there anything I should know before I go?
This experience includes strobe lighting, fog, confined spaces, and moments of intense psychological suspense. Stories also contain mature themes that may be triggering, including suicide, abuse, mental health struggles, death, and grief. For questions about a specific storyline, email us at info@theinkwell.com. It isn't recommended for guests who are pregnant, have heart or respiratory conditions, or are prone to anxiety in the dark. All guests are required to sign a digital waiver before entry.
Are there trigger warnings?
Yes. Our stories deal with dark, mature themes, including suicide, abuse, mental health struggles, death, and grief. Content varies by experience, so if you have concerns about a specific storyline, email us at info@theinkwell.com before booking and we'll help you decide if it's the right story for you.
How many people can come?
Every experience is built for two to eight players. Smaller or larger groups can reach out about a private booking.
Where will you be located?
We're not announcing the exact address yet. The Inkwell will call the Greater Boston area home, and full location and transit details will go out to everyone on the waitlist before tickets go on sale.
Where do I park?
Park at the garage at 170 Centre St, Malden, MA 02148 and bring your parking ticket inside. We'll validate it so you pay a discounted rate of just $0.50 per hour.
Can I take a bathroom break during the show?
No. There are no bathroom breaks once the story begins, so please use the restroom before your show starts. You're always free to leave for any reason, but once you leave, there's no re-entry. Finding you in the dark, guiding you out, and then slipping you back into a scene already in motion would break the story for everyone else in your group.
Is there a bar?
Yes. Our lobby has a full bar with signature drinks built around each story, plus snacks. Drinks are served after your show only, never before. We want you walking into the story with a clear head. Once you've survived it, the first round is a well-earned celebration.
Is there an age recommendation?
Our experiences are built for adults and mature teens. Content varies by experience, so check the specific experience page or ask us directly if you're booking for a younger group.
